WP 5

New positioning and scanning systems for speed and accuracy

WP5 Positioning and moving samples in the X-ray beam extremely accurately in time and space is a grand challenge faced by all fields in X-ray photon science.

Within WP5 of LEAPS-INNOV we will:

 

  • develop prototype devices for translation and rotation on the nanometre scale to enable faster and more accurate sample scanning.

  • develop protocols for standardised communication between and use of beamline hardware to address the challenges of synchronising multiple beamline components on the nanosecond timescale.

  • develop a common, pan-European, standardised set of tools and sample holders for delivering samples in solution to the X-ray beam and new modes of contactless sample delivery for room temperature experiments.
